Sonia Gandhi holds key Congress meeting, also meets PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti

NEW DELHI: A meeting of top Congress leaders is underway at Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janpath. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mukul Wasnik, Randeep Singh Surjewala, K C Venugopal, and Ambika Soni are at the meeting that has been going on for over two hours.
During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi separately met PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.
The meeting of the senior Congress leaders comes just two days after the Gandhis and others sat down with poll strategist Prashant Kishor.
Kishor gave a detailed presentation to the party leadership on the way forward for 2024 general elections. There are also rumours that Kishor will join the party.
With an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Kishor told the leadership to focus on around 370 parliamentary seats. “Congress should fight alone in UP, Bihar and Odisha. In Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Maharashtra, Congress should fight in alliance. Rahul Gandhi agreed to the points made by Kishor,” said sources.
He also told the leadership to start afresh in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha.
AICC general secretary K C Venugopal had said that the presentation made by Kishor would “need some detailed discussion and the Congress president will set up a small group to discuss the entire presentation. The group will submit a report within a week’s time for a final decision”.
